September 27,2016

Dear Parents,

Time is sure flying by, we are reaching the end of September, so we are getting closer to our Field Trip. On October 20th : we will attend Church; have a quick snack and use restrooms; load cars and head to Pumpkin Patch; then head to Mckay Park for Lunch and recess; and then a change of plan, instead of Runge Center we will be going to Sams. At Sams they will make their own cupcakes to eat and have a tour. The 1st and 2nd Graders will be joining us for the field trip.

Since Halloween is on a Monday, we will be having our Halloween Party on Thursday, October 27th at 2 o'clock. We will have a short parade around the school to office and other classrooms, if room mothers want to have some games and snacks that would be great. If Room Mothers have any questions or need me to get anything please feel free to ask me. Thanks!

Here are some of the things that kept us busy last week:

Reading: The children said the ABCs along with the “Giggle Bellies, Monster Trucks”, and “The ABCs Phonics Song” on Youtube. We worked on the ABC Flash Cards, and got moving with “Move and Freeze”, “Pancake Manor, Let's Get Fit, Dance, and Move”, and “Brain Breaks, Happy Dance”. The Letter of the week was “D” for Dinosaurs and Dance. The children made cereal D, stamped with paint and Dino cookie cutters, made Dino Pocket Pal, traced letter “D”, and sang along with sever Phonic “D” songs.

Math: The children loved the video “Ten Little Dinosaurs” from Mother Goose Club and the one from Little BabyBum, it helped them recognize numbers, to count forwards, and to count backwards. We sorted big and little Toy Dinos and cardboard Dinos by color and then by kinds, we then found which had most and least; andcut Dinos out of different color play dough. We also worked on the Shape Danny Diamond.

Religion: They all continue doing a great job in Church with their Prayer Pals, we are practicing genuflecting and making the Sign of Cross. We started on our Seeds Pamphlets, the theme was “We have a Church Family”. The children enjoyed singing “I am Special” and “Jesus Loves Me”, then they made “I am FabYoulous” Bracelets.

S.S./Science: They did The Dinosaur Stomp and “Move Like the Dinosaurs”; watched several videos about Dinos; learned the words Fossil and Extinct; buried Dinos in sand and dug up their Fossils; talked about Meat Eaters and Plant Eaters and then tried different foods to see if they were meat eaters or plant eaters( they sure loved grapes and summer sausage); learned why some had long necks, some had sharp teeth and others had horns; and made their own Dinosaurs.

Crafts: Made their Names on Dandy Dinosaur, painted Dinosaurs with Dotters, and made Dinosaur Rubbings. Last week we practiced for Fire Drill and then participated in whole school Fire Drill. This week we will be practicing Intruder Drill and participate in whole school Intruder Drill.

Story Time: The stories we enjoyed: “How Do Dinosaurs Say I'm Mad?”, “Danny and the Dinosaur”, “DinoFours, I'm the Boss”, “How Do Dinos Go to Sleep?”, “Groovy Joe, Ice Cream and Dinosaurs”, and “Dinosaur Hunt”.

This week we will be working on “E” for Elephant, we will be learning all about the Incredible gift of the elephant from God. They will be using Magic Nuddles to make elephant, making Elegant Elephants, and Edible Elephants; helping Elephant follow path of peanuts to school; singing along to several versions of “10 Little Elephants”; and reading many Elephant stories. We will also be learning about the colors of Fall and in Religion we will be learning “Who Needs Help” and “Who Can Help”. The children will be doing a special thumbprint craft for “Jesus is the Good Shepherd. We will be taking the Moon Sand out of Activity Table and replacing with Water, bubbles, measuring cups, and spoons.
